A.P. Warrior Pedigree Analysis by Alan Porter
Alan Porter - " A P. WARRIOR is a horse who has all the credentials for sire success. A brilliant debut winner at five furlongs at two, he captured graded stakes on dirt and turf at three. He is by A.P. Indy – already represented by five sons who have sired grade one winners in their first or second crops – out of a Champion Two-Year-Old Filly from the immediate family of Storm Bird.
A P. Warrior has exciting potential with mares from the male line of Storm Bird, a three-parts-brother to A. P. Warrior’s third dam, stakes winner Ocean’s Answer. Particularly interesting are mares by Storm Cat and his son, and Summer Squall. A. P. Indy and his sons have also worked well over Northern Dancer in general and other branches of the Northern Dancer sire line which appeal here are Vice Regent and his son Deputy Minister (who also have background similarities to A. P. Warrior’s third dam), Nijinsky II and The Minstrel (also both related to Ocean’s Answer) , Danzig, Lyphard, Dixieland Band, Nureyev, El Gran Senor and Topsider. A.P. Indy has also sired graded stakes winner A. P. Assay out of a mare by Clever Trick, who is by Northern Dancer’s three-quarters relative, Icecapade.
A. P. Warrior’s dam is inbred 3 x 3 to Mr. Prospector, but these crosses will be in the fifth generation it could be possible to add a third strain of Mr. Prospector. Particularly good would be horses bred on a Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, such as Thunder Gulch (bringing in Storm Bird), Grand Slam, Elusive Quality, Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, Fusaichi Pegasus and Smoke Glacken.
Quiet American, the broodmare sire of A. P. Warrior, is inbred to Dr. Fager, and the excellent foundation mare, Cequillo. This would work well with In Reality, through Valid Appeal, Relaunch (whose son, Honour and Glory, is from the Cequillo family), Believe It, Known Fact and Smile. Great Above is out of Dr. Fager’s half-sister, Champion Ta Wee, and he could be brought in through Holy Bull and Housebuster, while Housebuster’s sire, Mt. Livermore, could also fit well here. Ogygian, from the Cequillo family, could also do well here.
The cross of A.P. Indy over mares from the Turn-to/Hail to Reason line has not been prolific, but has produced some top-class horses. He has graded stakes winners out of mares descending from Hail to Reason through Roberto and his son, Kris S., and he also has grade one winner, and grade one sire Golden Missile out of a mare by Cure the Blues (who brings in another cross of Dr. Fager), a son of the Hail to Reason horse, Stop the Music. A.P. Indy has sired grade one winner and successful young sire, Stephen Got Even, out of a mare by Cox’s Ridge, a grandson of Turn-to.
A.P. Indy has sired graded stakes winners out of mares by Pleasant Colony and his son, Pleasant Tap. Pleasant Colony is by the Ribot stallion, His Majesty, and A.P. Indy has also sired a grade one winner out of a mare by Ribot’s grandson, Hoist the Flag (by Tom Rolfe). Other broodmare sire lines which have worked with A.P. Indy are Bold Ruler; Buckpasser and Grey Dawn II."
“ A. P. WARRIOR is a horse who has all the credentials for sire success. A brilliant debut winner at 5 1/2 furlongs at two, he captured graded stakes on dirt and turf at three. He is by A. P. Indy – already represented by five sons who have sired grade one winners in their first crops –
