Golden Galleon, a 2-year-old filly by Medaglia d’Oro that was bred and sold by Stonewall Stallions, gained immediate attention as a horse to watch heading into 2010 when she made a triumphant debut at the races on Dec. 10th, cruising to a decisive three-length victory in a $43,000 maiden special weight race at Aqueduct.

Conditioned by top trainer Todd Pletcher, the promising filly rallied from off the pace to separate herself from the field in the stretch, hitting the wire in 1:11.78 for six furlongs. She is out of Stonewall Stallions’ multiple graded stakes-winning Stormy Atlantic mare Atlantic Ocean, who excelled around two turns and was a top 2-year-old and 3-year-old filly during her racing career. Golden Galleon’s genetics certainly allows for added optimism heading into her 3-year-old campaign in 2010, which will likely occur at Gulfstream Park in the immediate future.

The bay filly earned $25,800 in her debut for owner Thoroughbred Futures Racing. Stonewall Stallions sold Golden Galleon at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings Sale $250,000, and Atlantic Ocean continues her career as a broodmare at the Versailles-based farm. The mare has a weanling by the late Lawyer Ron this year.
