It was an exceptional week overseas for Stonewall Farm Stallions’ Medaglia d'Oro, who enjoyed great success in auctions in both England and France including a record-priced filly.
At the Arqana Breeze Up Sale at Saint-Cloud, France on April 19, a 2-year-old daughter from the first crop of Medaglia d’Oro, selling as Hip No. 124 consigned by Haras du Saubouus, sold for a record 220,000 euros. Out of the Alysheba matron Fasateen, the filly was purchased by MAB Agency. Fasateen is a stakes-winning half-sister to four-time Grade/Group 1 winner and champion Hatoof and to Shoemaker Mile (G1) winner Irish Prize.
Medaglia d’Oro also enjoyed strong results at the annual April Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sales in Newmarket, England. A pair of Medaglia d’Oro 2-year-old colts sold for a total of 370,000 guineas - an average of 185,000. Hip No. 142, a colt out of Lady Laika consigned by Ireland's Yeomanstown Stud, sold for 200,000 guineas to Blandford Bloodstock, and Hip No. 146, a colt out of Chartreuse consigned by Ireland's Bansha House Stables, sold for 170,000 guineas to John McCormack Bloodstock.
Medaglia d'Oro, who stands in 2008 for a fee of $40,000, has enjoyed strong 2-year-olds sales prices up to $900,000 this year, and his first crop of runners have already hit the racetracks.
