Stonewall Farm Stallions announced Friday, June 5th that superstar second-crop sire Medaglia d'Oro has officially been sold to Darley.
"We felt we had to do right by him," said Richard Haisfield. "He has been so good to us and this was the opportunity of a lifetime for him. Darley has the ability to make him an international sire."
A multiple Grade 1 winner who earned $5,754,720, Medaglia d’Oro, by El Prado, started the breeding season at $40,000 and now commands a $60,000 fee. The stallion has soared to the top of the stallion ranks as a result of the high profile accomplishments of his star first-crop filly Rachel Alexandra, the impressive winner of the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and most recently the Preakness S. (G1) over males, making him the Leading Second-Crop Sire.
Medaglia d'Oro, 10, is also ranked second on the overall Leading Sires list by North American earnings, a sizable feat for a horse with only first-crop 3-year-olds that have reached the winner’s circle. He is also the sire of Payton d'Oro, winner of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2), G3 winner C. S. Silk and other first-crop stakes winners Retraceable, Gabby's Golden Gal, Renda, and She's Our Annie.
Medaglia d'Oro has also enjoyed strong results in the auction ring from his yearlings and 2-year-olds-in-training, and is a leading commercial sire.
