In a fitting tribute to his sensational 2007 season, Stonewall Farm Stallions' Lawyer Ron was rewarded with the Eclipse Award as Champion Older Male at the prestigious ceremonies in Los Angeles on Monday evening, Jan. 21.
The brilliant son of Langfuhr dominated the category with 147 votes from 254 ballots recorded, defeating Invasor and Corinthian.
Lawyer Ron’s stellar season included three graded stakes wins including back-to-back Grade 1 victories at the historic Saratoga Race Course. In one of the best performances of 2007, Lawyer Ron broke the 1 1/8-mile track record at the 145-year-old race course in the Whitney Handicap (G1) before dazzling again with a runaway win in the Woodward Stakes (G1).
He picked up his first graded win of 2007 earlier in the year, handily winning the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) at Oaklawn Park in April. In addition, Lawyer Ron finished a close second to Horse of the Year winner Curlin in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) and third in the Metropolitan Mile (G1), while earning $1,320,000.
Lawyer Ron closed out his three-year career with an outstanding record of 12-4-4 in 26 starts and earnings of $2,790,008. He becomes the second Eclipse Champion added to the Stonewall Farm Stallions’ roster in the last three years, joining 2005 Champion Turf Male, Leroidesanimaux.
Lawyer Ron will stand his first season at Stonewall this year for a fee of $30,000 stand and nurse, with complimentary seasons to approved Grade 1 winning or producing mares.
