Ariege, a Grade 1-winning filly by Stonewall Stallions’ Doneraile Court, made her seasonal debut at four a winning one, cruising to a comfortable win in a $66,000 allowance race on the turf at Keeneland.
Ridden by Julien Leparoux, Ariege pulled herself to the lead early and kicked clear with her patented quick turn of foot in the stretch to prevail by a measured three-parts of a length. The final time was 1:45.18 for 1 1/16 miles over a firm course.
Racing for the first time in the Stronach Stable colors, Ariege picked up her fifth win from 11 starts with earnings of $528,485. Bobby Frankel still trains Ariege, who was sold to Stronach for $1.8 million last fall at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale. At three, she won the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) as well as the Beaumont Stakes (G2) at Keeneland.
